Salzburg and its many attractions
an easy 20-min bus ride to the Salzburg historical district
Salzburg is rich in sightseeing attractions. Imposing buildings, such as the fortress, cathedral and many churches, the Salzburg Museum and Hellbrunn Palace invite you to embark on a journey of discovery. We suggest using public transportation. The "Auwirt" bus stop is right in front of the hotel. The No. 170 bus will get you to the heart of the Salzburg historical district in just 20 minutes. Leave your car safely parked in our free car park. Bus schedules are available from Salzburg Public Transport.
When you visit Salzburg City, we recommend purchasing the 24 or 48-hour Salzburg Card. All admission fees and fares for sightseeing attractions and public transportation (incl. the fortress funicular, Salzach ferries and Untersbergbahn lift) are included. You will also receive attractive discounts when you attend cultural events, and when you visit various excursion destinations in the Tennengau Region.
Tourism Attractions and Museums
Mirabell Gardens are one of the most-visited sights in Salzburg. The floral designs are changed several times during the year. Hellbrunn Palace, with its famous "Trick Fountains", is one of the most magnificent Renaissance buildings north of the Alps.
The emblem of Salzburg City, Hohensalzburg Fortress, is enthroned on the Festungsberg high above the Old City and is impossible to miss. You can reach it either by taking a 30-min walk, or simply ride up on the fortress funicular.
The city's most important museums include the Domquartier, the Haus der Natur, the Salzburg Museum, the Rupertinum, Mozart's Birthplace and -Residence. Salzburg Cathedral is undoubtedly the most impressive house of worship, along with the Franciscan and University Churches and St. Peter's Abbey.
Culture – Festivals – Events
The Salzburg Festival captivates audiences with opera, theatrical performances, literary readings and concerts, from the end of July until the end of August. The Pernerinsel in Hallein provides an additional venue for Festival events.
Advent in Salzburg: Aside from the world-famous Salzburg Christmas Market set against the unique backdrop of the cathedral, magical Advent markets can also be found on Mirabell Square and in front of Hellbrunn Palace. In addition, we suggest attending one of the numerous "Advent Singing" events that take place during your Salzburg stay.
A Fortress Concert up at the castle or a Schlosskonzert with music by Mozart performed in Salzburg's most beautiful wedding hall at Schloss Mirabell are sure to enchant you. The many other event highlights include Mozart Week at the end of January, Easter- and Whitsuntide Festivals, Salzburg Culture Days and the Winterfest.
